Central banker to run in Fukushima gubernatorial election

TOKYO, Japan - Takeshi Hachimura, a Bank of Japan official, meets with the press on Aug. 17, 2014, in the city of Fukushima where he announced he will run in October's Fukushima gubernatorial election, the first leadership race since the March 2011 nuclear disaster there. Hachimura, 55, served as the central bank's Fukushima branch manager between 2005 and 2008 and the Reconstruction Agency's policy adviser after the disaster.

PIREUS, Greece - Japanese chef Kiyomi Mikuni (L), renowned for his French cuisine, is appointed a goodwill ambassador for Greek food by the Greek trade council in a ceremony at a restaurant in the port town of Pireus on March 17. The move is in line with Greece's plan to boost advertising for its pavilion at the 2005 World Exposition to be held in Japan's Aichi Prefecture.

It is one of fuel-cell motor vehicles to be entered by three Japanese and two foreign automakers into a joint test on Japanese roads. The Japan Electric Vehicle Association said July 17 the test, sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will last for three years through the end of March 2005.

Rutherford took off from Sofia on March 23 this year and landed again here after flying through 52 countries and logging up around 250 hours of flying time.
